PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Unit Director, the Teen Development Professional is responsible for facilitating teen required programs and activities; working with youth ages 13-18, grades 7th - 12th grade.

KEY ROLES (Job Responsibilities):

Prepare Teens for Success

  • Develop and foster a positive climate for teen development based on the mission and goals of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Ensure that teens actively participate in a variety of programs and activities; seek advice and guidance from staff about problems; and receive care, respect and recognition for their efforts
  • Plan, organize and implement a range of program activities specific for teen development
  • Initiate new programs with the approval of the Club Director
  • Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to teen needs and interests and participating in staff meetings
  • Promote safety of teens, quality programs, and maintain a clean appearance of the Club
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to teens. Encourage cooperation, teamwork, group and individual achievement through a wide array of opportunities
  • Inspire and stimulate program participation and welcome new teens
  • Teach social skills and how to develop and foster friendships; encourage teens to learn new things, increase self-esteem, and achieve academic success
  • Monitor group and individual behavior and follow organization discipline policy and procedures
  • Duties as assigned which may include responsibility for speaking with parents, club attendance for check-in and dismissal, tracking homework and teen data specific to Boys & Girls Club metrics, answering phones, filing and other duties as needed
  • Build relationships with staff at Cheyenne Junior and Senior High schools to promote club awareness and opportunities for teen recruitment
  • Working hours will be from 2:00pm 7:00pm, Monday through Friday during the school year, with the ability to work non-school days for up to 8 hours a day

Health and Safety

  • Ensure a healthy, clean and safe environment, supervising members in program area
  • Demonstrate the ability to be responsible for small or large groups of teens during daily operations and field trips. Accountable for teens and provide all opportunities for an enjoyable experience for all
  • Manage facilities, and ensure a productive work environment, maintaining an inventory of all program equipment and supplies are in good order

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May participate in special programs and/or events
  • May be required to drive club vehicles.
  • May be required to work some nights and weekends

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Internal: maintain close, daily contact with all club staff and volunteers to receive/provide information and to discuss issues

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of teen development.
  • Ability to motivate teens and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to deal with the general public
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for teens
  • Ability to organize and supervise teens in a safe environment.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Valid state driver license
  • May be required to obtain a CDL license
  • Be a team player in order to reach our goals
  • Maturely and professionally engage with teens to create a fun, innovative and safe experience that promotes our Clubs mission and overarching vision

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is considered a light exertion position. Work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. This position requires walking/standing to a significant degree; sitting most of the time while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls; or working at a production rate pace constantly as the stress and strain of a production rate pace can be physically demanding even though the amount of force exerted is negligible. This position requires sitting a good portion of the day but involves walking standing for extended periods of time and walking at a brisk pace.
